James H. [Harvey] Logan (1841-1928 Colma); "Judge Logan", amateur hybridist who created the "Loganberry", came to Santa Cruz in 1867.

In addition to the Santa Cruz property, Logan owned a ranch in the Aromas area (Monterey County), just across the Pajaro River from Highway 129 at Chittenden. The ranch included or was near to a quarry known as the "Logan quarry". The quarry was acquired by A. R. Wilson and others in 1899, and became the foundation of the Granite Rock Company (now Graniterock) the following year.
