The Charles Ford Company owned the "Ford's" department stores, first in Watsonville and later in Santa Cruz. Both "downtown anchor" stores closed after their buildings were damaged in the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, and later demolished. The company was established as "Ford & Sanborn" by Ford, Charles and Sanborn, Lucius.
