Chittenden is a narrow unincorporated residential-only community located mostly between Highway 129 and the Pajaro River, east of Watsonville. It was named for early settler Nathaniel W. Chittenden. Just across the river in Monterey County is the Graniterock quarry. The community's one access road is Old Chittenden Road, which runs parallel to the old Southern/Union Pacific railroad tracks, and to Hwy. 129 beyond. According to Santa Cruz Trains, the Union Pacific line remains active.
