Watsonville Road is an obsolete name for the road that followed the route from Watsonville to Santa Cruz laid out by the 1769 expedition led by Portolá, the first Europeans to see what is now Santa Cruz County. Its western terminus was originally a ford on the San Lorenzo River. Continuing to the east, parts of the old road are roughly followed by today's Soquel Avenue, Soquel Drive, and Freedom Boulevard.
