Freedom Boulevard is part of the old Watsonville Road, based on the route laid out by the 1769 expedition led by Portolá, the first Europeans to see what is now Santa Cruz County. Its western terminus is at Highway 1, where it picks up the Portolá route from Soquel Drive. Freedom Blvd. is the main through road of the Freedom community, before dead-ending into Main Street in Watsonville.
