Frank Ball (no burial in California found) came to California in 1847 (not 1846 as stated in the obit) with Stevenson's New York Volunteers, to fight in the Mexican-American War. Like John Dreher, David Norris, (and others including Colonel Stevenson himself), Ball stayed in California after the war, and ended up in Santa Cruz (presumably before 1850), where he acquired a 5-acre farm on the river side of what is now Ocean Street, north of Water Street.
