David Norris (d.1884) came to California in 1847 with Stevenson's New York Volunteers, to fight in the Mexican-American War. Like John Dreher, Frank Ball, (and others including Stevenson himself), Ball stayed in California after the war, and ended up in Santa Cruz (presumably before 1850). It's not known (yet) exactly when Norris moved to Alameda County.
- Mexican-American War service in the New York Volunteers regiment is documented in "The First regiment of New York volunteers, commanded by Col. Jonathan D. Stevenson, in the Mexican war", an 1882 book viewable online at Internet Archive (note: the book lists Norris as living in Centerville, Alameda County).
