Scaroni, Pio

Pio Scaroni (1851-1931) is described in Guinn as born in Gordola, Switzerland, coming to Santa Cruz County in the early 1970s to rent land for dairy and general farming medicine on the North coast, buying that land in 1883. Today's Scaroni Road, off Highway 1 between Santa Cruz and Davenport, is probably at or near the Scaroni farm. The nearby community was once known as Gordola, presumably because a number of Italian-Swiss families came to the area from that town.
