Santa Cruz Hotel is no longer a hotel, but survives today as home to a pair of restaurants and the "Redroom" bar (which used to be part of an Italian restaurant). The 1877 two-story structure was a project of downtown Santa Cruz developer Robert Whidden. In its early days it was the Germania Hotel which, from its location close to the narrow-gauge train depot (prior to the 1893 Union Depot), catered to German-speaking visitors.

  • A Good Times article by by Christina Waters, DNA, Brad Kava, and Sharan Street (July 2, 2025) named the Redroom as the 2nd-oldest continuously-operating business in the county (based on the 1877 birth of the hotel).
