Chestnut Street extension

In 1964, the Chestnut Street extension was constructed, extending the existing Chestnut Street up the hill to reach Mission Street across from the end of the 1956 Highway 1 beach bypass. In the process, venerable Union Street was cut in two, and several historic buildings were moved or demolished.
