Chestnut Street extension
In 1964, the Chestnut Street extension was constructed, extending the existing Chestnut Street up the hill to intersect Mission Street at the also-new Highway 1 beach bypass. In the process, venerable Union Street was cut in two, and several historic buildings were moved or demolished.
