San Lorenzo trestle: Difference between revisions

The San Lorenzo trestle was first built in 1875-76 to carry the Santa Cruz Railroad across the San Lorenzo River, near its mouth. The original main span was of an open (some later photographs show the sides enclosed) wood-truss design, similar to the California Powder Works covered bridge. The current steel-truss bridge dates from 1908. Adjacent to the railroad tracks, the 1908 bridge supported a narrow pedestrian bridge. The pedestrian bridge was replaced in 2019 by a wider steel structure, part of Riverwalk park and the Santa Cruz County Coastal Rail Trail.

Another railroad trestle, which carries trains traveling from Roaring Camp to Santa Cruz, crosses the SLR at Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park.
