William M. Roach (1820-1866), born in Ireland, came to California in 1847 with Stevenson's volunteers. First Monterey County Sheriff 1850-53. Moved to the Pajaro Valley in 1853, where he died the victim of an unsolved murder.

- Mexican-American War service in the New York Volunteers regiment is documented in "The First regiment of New York volunteers, commanded by Col. Jonathan D. Stevenson, in the Mexican war", an 1882 book viewable online at Internet Archive (note: the list of names does not include all of those whose service in this regiment is noted in other sources - including Roach).
