The Coastal Rail Trail project is a collaboration of the County of Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz County Regional Transportation Commission (SCCRTC) as the owner of the rail line since 2012, and the cities of Santa Cruz, Capitola, and Watsonville. The Coastal Rail Trail will be the Santa Cruz County part of the Monterey Bay Sanctuary Scenic Trail Network.
