The Pinto family are among those Mexican families named by Leon Rowland as "Los Fundadores" - founders of Californio families. Pinto Lake is in the Amesti neighborhood north of Watsonville, and the lake was presumably named for this family. Family members include:

  • Pablo Pinto (1735-1783, San Francisco) - was a soldier with the 1776 de Anza expedition.
    • son Juan Maria (1759-1810) is the only one of five children who died in Santa Cruz County.
