Peter Peterson (1825-1916) is described in Guinn as born in Norway, coming in the mid-1850s to a cattle ranch "on the Ben Loman mountains". The "Hatch map" shows the Peterson land adjoining Empire Grade to the west, and adjoining Smith Grade to the south. In the 1890s he sold that land to the Holmes Lime Company and moved to Santa Cruz.
