Pacific Ocean House was the first large hotel on Pacific Avenue. First built in 1852, in the first block of Willow Street (Pacific Avenue after 1866) as the Rice Hotel by Henry Rice, then renamed San Lorenzo Hotel. That building burned in 1865, and the rebuilt hotel was named Pacific Ocean House.
