Matthew J. "Matt" McGowan (https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/120476130/matthew-jarvis-mcgowan 1866-1949) is described in Martin as born in the Pajaro Valley, on the Monterey County side of the river. Matt was the youngest of six children in the family of John McGowan (1826-1901), born in Ireland, who came to the Pajaro Valley farm where Matt was born in 1864.
