Thomas Martin (1840-1911), born in Scotland, was a pioneer in the Watsonville area along with four brothers. W. H. Martin may have been one of those brothers, but Thomas was not related to Edward Martin (also of Watsonville). According to a note under "Martin Bros." in the "Names on the Map" index, the other one of the "Martin Bros." was named John Martin (but he's not this John Martin). In 1882, Jack Swan wrote that he stayed "a few days" with Thomas Martin during his walk from Monterey to Santa Cruz. Swan didn't describe his route, but it may have been along the railroad right-of-way.
- There was once a "Martins" stop where the Santa Cruz Railroad (SCR) passed near the Martin farm.
