John H. Covell (no local burial found) is described in Martin as born 1875 in Santa Cruz County, at an unknown place called "Albitos". He moved to Watsonville in 1900, where he went into the then-new auto repair business. As Martin tells it:
"The present manager and half owner acquired the old Watsonville garage October 20, 1908, at which time there were only about four cars maintained in the valley, where now there are one hundred and twenty-five. January 1, 1911, Mr. Covell sold a half interest in his business to W. H. Weeks and the firm has since been known as the Watsonville Garage Company, of which he is manager, and ten men are now employed . . .".

- The Find-a-Grave page for Ida Lillian Weeks Covell (1867-1940) includes the note "Widowed by the 1900 census (Boyd); married John Henry Covell (1875-1952) about 1930". Ida was a sister of William Henry Weeks, who became a prominent California architect from beginnings in Watsonville.
