The Potrero neighborhood, north of downtown Santa Cruz along the San Lorenzo River, is so-named because it was used as pasture for livestock other than cattle (potrero) by Mission Santa Cruz. The section of the former potrero lying north of Highway 1 is now the Harvey West neighborhood.
