Edward Bowman (1841-1914) was a younger brother of Gustavus Bowman, and younger brother (or nephew?) of John Bowman. Edward Bowman acquired the Foster & Lake carriage-maker business on Front Street, changing the name to "Santa Cruz Carriage Works" in ~1884 (first "'Sentinel ad found with "E. Bowman" as proprietor; image at right).

According to the Find-a-Grave page, the Bowman parents emigrated from Germany to Ohio, where the son/sons were born, and changed the name spelling from Bauman to Bowman. Daughter Eva Bowman married H. R. Judah, Jr., a future senator.
