José Antonio Bolcoff (1794–1866) was a native of Russia, and one of the earliest non-Spanish immigrants to Santa Cruz. He left a ship in Monterey, converted to Roman Catholicism in Soledad, came to Branciforte, became a naturalized Mexican citizen, adopted a Spanish form of his name (Bolcof), married a daughter of the Castro family, was grantee of Rancho San Agustin, and later Rancho Refugio (through his wife Candida). He served as mayor domo of Mission Santa Cruz (after its secularization), alcalde, and juez de paz.
