Frederick Ellsworth Bailey (1817-1888) is described in Elliott as a native of Vermont who came to Santa Cruz in 1858. He was elected County Treasurer in 1868, and became the "county physician" in 1879. Son Alex H. Bailey (1855-1897) also became a doctor, and has a biography in Harrison.
