The 1906 San Francisco earthquake caused significant damage to structures in Santa Cruz, including:

Heavy damage in San Francisco from the earthquake and subsequent fire caused a boom in the export of building materials from Santa Cruz County, especially Bituminous rock, Lime and Cement, and Timber products.
