A. W. Cox (no local burial found) is described in Martin as born 1865 in New Zealand, coming to San Francisco with his father in 1876, and soon afterwards to Santa Cruz. He graduated from Chesnutwood's Business College in 1883, and moved to Watsonville in 1887, where he worked for the Charles Ford Company (the department store Fords), eventually rising to become general manager.
