Wiliiam A. Horton (1870-1950) is described in Martin as a born 1870 in Illinois, coming to Santa Cruz with his parents in 1886. In 1888 he began working for the Williamson & Garrett grocery company, staying there 14 years. In 1902 he began 4 years as county under-sheriff under sheriff Howard Trafton. He was elected county assessor in 1906, serving two 2-year terms.
