Hodgdon, George R.
George R. Hodgdon (1834-1912) is described in Martin as born 1834 in Maine, coming to San Francisco by sea in 1853, then to Santa Cruz by coastal schooner. Among his shipmates were six members of the Scott family who were also coming from Maine to join their relative Hiram Scott. It seems likely that all of the Mainers knew each other before setting sail, and Hodgson went immediately to work on the Scott farm. After California military service in the Civil War and afterwards in Kansas, followed by other travels, he returned to Santa Cruz in 1890, and from "1895 until 1901 he served as superintendent of the county hospital".
