Mrs. Margaret Barfield (1837-1923 Merced County), described by Chase as "a wealthy Merced widow", retained LeBaron Olive in 1890 to design the Third Street residence that remains today as "Rio Vista". Josie Tretheway bought the house from Mrs. Barfield, according to the obituary article on her Find-a-Grave page.
