Marko [Marco] Rabasa (1827-1900) was an early Croatian immigrant to the Pajaro Valley, in 1876. In that year, the Santa Cruz Railroad was completed, connecting Santa Cruz to the Southern Pacific line at Pajaro. Rabasa was not a grower himself, but a wholesaler who saw a new opportunity to export apples and other tree fruit from Santa Cruz County via the railroad. Early customers included William Blackburn. See Martin, p.111.
