William DeHart (no local burial found) is described in Guinn as raised in Iowa, coming in 1869 to Watsonville. In 1896, he and partner Edmund White (no bio found) established the "White & DeHart Co." that, according to Guinn, "turned out all kinds of fruit boxes, berry crates and baskets, and they also conduct a feed mill and general lumber mill." In 1899, DeHart bought out White, and DeHart's son Joseph joined the company.
