James O. Wanzer, Sr. (1837-1913) owned an 1867 Locust Street house. The property later passed to Cornelius Cappelmann, who replaced the house with the apartment building that remains today. Wanzer's wife Lucy Field Wanzer (1841-1933, cremated) became the first accredited female M. D. in California.
