John T. McKean (no local burial found), born in Ohio, came to Santa Cruz in 1886 and bought a commercial photography business from someone named "Recht". In 1888, McKean sold a half interest to O. V. Ort. Bio on page 350 in Harrison. Many of the photographic portraits in Harrison were credited to McKean & Ort.
