Bart [Barton Hinds] Stevens (1830-1864) was a blacksmith and an early downtown resident, on Church Street. He died at age 34 from an infected wound. The late-1850s Stevens house was later home to the George Otto family.

Son Frederick L. was a Soc. of Pioneers member. Note: the "official portrait" used for Frederick L. Stevens in Santa Cruz County History Journal Number 4 is the same image used in Riptide for George C. Stevens.
