The Dream Inn, in its prominent location above the beach, is probably the most visible hotel in Santa Cruz. Begun in 1962, the 11-story addition was built in 1972. The 1962 photo at right shows the hotel under construction. In the background to the left, the no-longer-existing Sisters Hospital can be seen. The former hospital site currently (2025) serves as a parking lot for the hotel. To the right of the hospital is the former Lynch residence. The motel in between also remains in 2025. In the foreground surf, some old pilings of the Railroad wharf remain standing long after its 1922 demolition. Those are no longer visible.
