Williams, Edward L.
(Redirected from Williams, Charles E.)
Edward Laurence Williams (1826-1906), born in Philadelphia, was a contributor to History of Santa Cruz County (Harrison-1892). In 1890, he interviewed former Mission Santa Cruz neophyte Lorenzo Asisara, and that interview was included in Harrison's history. Harrison's mother Helen (SWC, page 165) owned a large parcel that, for many years, blocked extension of Front Street past Arcan Street (aka Bridge Street, now Soquel Avenue). Son Edward C. Williams also has a biography in Harrison (p.275).
- Soc. of Pioneers says that another son, "Charles Edward", was also a Soc. of Pioneers member, and is also buried at Santa Cruz Memorial. Find-a-Grave has no Ed Williams relative by that name, but has a son "Lawrence E" at SC Mem. and a brother "Charles Wellich" at Evergreen.
- Riptide (CPL3) says he was a cousin of Joseph Boston.
- Rowland says that the E. L. Williams house was on the Arcan Street site near the river where the Fair Pavilion was later built.
- Not to be confused with Edward Lambrick Williams, a well-known local gladiola bulb grower.
- Lime Kiln Legacies (2007 book) says Williams was a minor investor in the IXL Lime Company (p.102).
