The Buelna family were early Californio residents of Villa de Branciforte.

  • [Joseph] Antonio Buelna (1754-1821, Santa Clara) Father of Joaquin, listed in Rowland as one of the original Branciforte invalidos.
  • Joseph Joaquin Buelna (1779-1859, Santa Clara) was an early Californio resident of Villa de Branciforte, who served as Comisionado (military liaison) and Juez de Paz (Justice of the Peace). He was the original grantee of Rancho Zayante, but never claimed it. On different pages, Rowland described Joaquin Buelna as Comisionado and as Juez de Paz in 1818, at the time of the Bouchard privateer raid on Monterey. One or more children were born at Branciforte, but none died there.
  • Josefa Buelna. Described in Rowland as the first teacher in the Zayante school district, created in 1882, and for 20 years thereafter.
